Has the Naval service taken delivery off its new 80 Tonne crane yet?

You should have plenty of reach with an 80 tonne. She'll lift 8 tonnes at 10-16m with a fully extended jib.(49.2m) At a push you'll lift a half tonne 42m away.

I thought training was included in the package?
If not, I know a man who would me more than happy to oblige.

Spoke to man I mentioned today, training package included would be more familiarisation rather than certification. He felt the NS would have had enough work for a 200 tonne crane, but the beancounters couldnt see the logic in this.
For example, the grey boxes that often sit on the stern of the P50s.

Looks more like the 80. The 90 has a different wheel arrangement. (was looking from a distance today)

Saw the Crane yesterday and can Confirm it is a 90 tonne.(sorry for doubting you Armedboarder) The Fly Jib is a useful addition too. Is it in use yet?

Bespoke Valla 120 Mini Crane solution for Irish Navy

Peter Hird & Sons recently supplied a bespoke pick and carry crane solution to the Irish Navy, in Cork, Southern Ireland. The boom hire, scissor lift hire and pick and carry compact crane hire specialists based in Hull, Yorkshire, were asked to come up with a safe and quick method to move inshore rescue craft across the port and up and onto larger ships.

A new Valla 120D pick and carry mini crane fitted the bill perfectly, but needed to be fitted with a number of extra features enabling work to be carried out easily. The Valla 120D was fitted with:

• 12 tonne hydraulic winch – enabling the Valla compact crane to lift the boats
• Enclosed driver’s cab – protecting the operator from any unsecured/falling objects from the boat
• Bespoke boat carry deck – a bespoke cradle specifically designed to carry the boat whilst positioning the Valla 120D
• Fork lift attachments to the crane – to easily carry and load any other boat accessories

Off topic but....Does the NS use the same Rib on all the Ships and then 1 or 2 ashore for training/maintenance or is an assortment with different ones on the different classes?

There are a number of similar types in use, and they are interchangable, with limits. The Larger Deltas(seen in photo above) are only used on ships equipped with the Caley Davits(P30 and P50-see other thread) and the last of the Avon Sea Riders are found on the P20 and P40 classes.

Thanks, found that thread...the Deltas are savage boats, any I've driven haven't had the cool grey&black colour scheme!
