  • 18th Century Cannon

    Hi folks,

I'm guessing that there may be a few people here who would know a bit about medieval history. I'm trying to find out about 18th century cannon, mainly their manafacture.. And specifically the horse-powered boring machines.

www.mtsu.edu/~cwtech/cannon/Casting.html Have a quick look here. It migh be of some help. I once saw a cannon in Edinburgh Castle called 'Mons Meg'. It was the crudest early version I had ever seen. It appeared to have the outer parts wraped in iron bar to reinforce it. I don't think they ever fired it, as they were very nervous about it blowing up. It was common for gun crews to be killed by their own cannon.
