    dude whats a unimog??

i though it was a big racing truck type thingy
    But there's no danger
    It's a professional career
    Though it could be arranged
With just a word in Mr. Churchill's ear
If you're out of luck you're out of work
We could send you to johannesburg.

I think the Unimog in question is of this variety

Do a search for some comedy comments on their capabilities.

Next time you see an ESB line crew out and about, watch what they have as load carriers: Unimogs.Trucks, that is.They also have IVECOs and Landys.perhaps someone should get the DoD to talk to the ESB about vehicles for hard off-road duties??!!
        regards

Wow, I took that photo...many years ago...
There is a museum dedicated to the Company who made these.

They were built by the same people who Made our landsverk L180s. The person responsible even mentioned he has the original order book, with our vehicles mentioned in them.

As for unimog trucks: They still have one in the Glen for dragging out the armour targets. Its Bright Yellow. Problem with Unimog trucks is each one is built to order, to the owners specification. And they all have a very short wheelbase. They are primarily tool carriers.
Remember when Homer Simpson was allowed design a car?
All the ESB wagons are ideal for carrying poles and cables out into the middle of a field, but lately, most of the real off road work is done with Quads. They also Use Ducato 4x4. Aslo the current Unimog all terrain truck is Butt Ugly.

Here's a guy that restored an old unimog. It's a class site - made me want to do it too!

Unimog Parts - VonsMog offers a huge selection of Mercedes Benz Diesel Unimog new and used parts, including our own manufactured parts. Check our our current inventory of trucks for sale.
              Meh.

                Tool carriers?

GVW 7.5t. You would want a lot of tools.

                Or this little ex-army baby
Small body but still GVW 8.5t

The new model may not be to everyones taste but at €150k for one thats about 2 years old you really would only get one if you really needed it!!

The designers favourite word that week was "dihedral".
