  • Lines on AFV

    Pic from another thread.

What are the lines on the top deck of the front AFV - it makes the "UN" writing wavy.

Is it just grip from carrying purposes?

Probably an air vent into the engine
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
    Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.

It's the ribbed glacis of the BMP-1. One of it's most distinguishing features.

Except in this case they're BMP-2s.

They stop ricochets, particularly of small arms, from bouncing up into more sensitive areas like optics.

Earlier Merkavas had similar ribbing in the cut-out for the gunner's sight.

          Ribbed, for extra pleasure.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
