  • Retirement of Longest Serving Naval Officer

I see in the examiner that Lt Cdr Tim Costello retired yesterday, having served in the Defence forces since joining as an apprentice in 1959. It seems he has served on each vessel in the current fleet. Sadly I cannot find the article online.
Nevertheless they gave the man the honour of a full march past as a send off.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

A book? Have you ever talked to Tom Costello? He has never said enough to fill a paragraph.

Small Piece in Todays Irish Times about it and a bit on the 6.1 News. For a man with fifty service years behind hm he sure didn't have a lot to say!

No, never met the man, but maybe thats why he's a man of few words - always thinking about material for his book !!!

His personal file would be worth publishing in itself !!!

He was all right though you know. Worse officers than him about that's for sure.

He would be the only one able to call someone a red arse

                      without looking over his shoulder

If you happen to call someone a redarse

invariably there is someone behind your shoulder (who is in longer than you and who goes

yeah but dont forget your a red arse as well,

but since he joined in 1959

I doubt there is anyone could say it to him
