I was reading an article recently and It mentioned a Joint Deployment Plan involving a British Fisheries Officer working on board the LE Aoife and an Irish Inspector working on board HMS Severn.
Actually, according to NATO doctrine, an OP or EX with 2 or more countries involved is "combined"; "joint" means more then one Service (IE: Army and Air Force) are involved.

Press Release 29th January 2009
New Measures to Protect Vulnerable Cod Stocks
- Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority to Join Forces with other
EU Fishery Control Agencies -
The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) will shortly participate in a Joint Deployment Plan with other EU control agencies to conduct inspections
of fishing activity in the Irish Sea, and of landings of Cod during February and
March 2009. The Joint Deployment Plan will be conducted as part of the
European Cod Recovery Plan, with a particular focus on the examination of
onboard catch composition, fishing gear being used, landings of cod and the
compliance with ‘days at sea’ entitlements. Fishing vessels of all nationalities
present in these waters will be inspected. The Joint Deployment Plan will be
conducted under the direction of the Community Fisheries Control Agency
(CFCA) based at Vigo, Spain, and will draw from the expertise of fisheries
inspection staff and patrol assets from Ireland, England, Scotland, Northern
Ireland, Belgium, Wales and the Isle of Man.
In 2004 the European Union brought in regulations to put in place measures
specifically to help the recovery of cod following scientific advice that cod
stocks were in serious decline and prone to collapse. The Marine Institute has
recently published scientific advice in its 2008 Stock Book (available at: http://www.marine.ie/home/publicatio...he+Stock+Book/)
confirming that cod stocks in the Irish Sea remain very vulnerable and that
only minimal catches should be allowed along with a strong control and
enforcement effort.
Peter Whelan, Chairman of the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority said: “The
SFPA welcomes this joint agency operation being coordinated by the
Community Fisheries Control Agency. I believe this work will further assist the
recovery of fragile cod stocks in the Irish Sea. This joint agency approach also ensures the uniform application of the rules of the Common Fisheries Policy
by all Member States involved and promotes a level playing field for the
fishermen operating in the Irish Sea.”
Because of the large crusty element in the media would blow it out of all proportion and claim NATO were conscripting our 12 year olds to go off and fight in the congo...
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
Since our last update HMS Severn has been busy carrying out Fishery Protection duties around the UK with stand-offs in Dover, Newcastle and Portsmouth. The middle of February saw Severn working in consort with the Irish Fisheries Agency on a Joint Deployment Plan (JDP) in the Irish Sea. The operation involved a British Fisheries Officer working on board the Irish Naval Vessel AOIFE and an Irish Inspector working on board Severn. This proved a successful operation and many lessons were identified for future JDPs. The patrol culminated with Severn detaining a vessel for illegal fishing.

The neutral band wagon would be rolled out and every pinko lefty tree hugging sure the world love's us nutter , would be up in arms . decrying the goverment for dragging the DF in to help evil nato with shooting dolphins and planting C4 into baby polar bears dinners.
The real news and issue would get lost in the emotional bombardment they use as an argument .
Just to stop people thinking I am a right wing shoot the lot and let god sort it out type:
I have been paid up member of green peace, and marched with polish solidarity in 1990 to the pub I admit but still marched and once saved a penguin from drowning .
