  • British Army Officer Cadets compete in Wespoint

Officer Cadets in training at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy attended the annual competition at Westpoint in the USA having completed just 7 months of their training.

well done to the Canadians who came first in 2009, 3rd and 5th ain't bad out of 48 for us either.

however the British Army went on to take first and second place in the 2010 event held earlier this year:

In this time of drastic cuts in the BA, I wonder how much this cost?

To fly two teams of cadets to the US? In the grand scheme of things an extremely small amount I would imagine. They send troops abroad to train all the time. Some countries take things like that seriously!

Not sure about the cadets but AFAIK everyone has to pay their own way.

what 'drastic cuts' in the British Army?

we will be losing up to 7,000 men but this doesn't have a knock on effect on training - it's business as usual here.

infact, it's letting us focus our efforts better and we can do more of this.

You are losing a sixth of your fighting power (1 brigade) plus big cuts in armour and artillery

The RN took most of the MoD cuts. The regiment ties in the house of lords assured the army would remain mostly unscathed.

yes - that's exactly what i mean. we are just downsizing so we can continue business and training as normal, infact above and beyond what we did before.

so trips to the USA or any of the many locations we train in (i am currently in Canada right now) are unaffected so your comments were not relative in this thread.

the armour and artillery and other equipment is all going into storage for a rainy day if we ever need it and have to upscale.

it's very much as i said, business as usual for us with better equipment continually entering service whilst training / deploying overseas continues unaffected.

Yeah, it isn't like you are surrounded by water or anything.

Could you imagine if Churchill was still around....

we shall fight on the seas and oceans, (Cancel my Last)
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air (if we can FINALLY procure the fecking aircraft), we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
                        we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender (Unless we cripple our own economy trying to dig out Fianna Fáil over the water)"
