  • NAVY Resumes search for missing fisherman

    Friday 21 January 2011

The Naval Vessel, L.E. NIAMH has taken over as on scene coordinator from L.E. EMER in the search for the missing fisherman which resumed in Ringabella Bay near Cork Harbour this morning.

The ship arrived on scene at 0800 and using her own RHIBs, began searching an area between Roberts Head and Myrtleville. The ship has been joined in the search by the Crosshaven Inshore Lifeboat, two local RHIBs and three fishing vessels.

The Ballycotton Lifeboat is due to arrive at 1015 and a Naval Dive Team are due on scene at 1030. The divers will be concentrating on an area approximately 20m offshore near the Southern side of Ringabella Bay in 6m of water.

This is the approximate area where the missing fisherman was last seen and local fishermen have said the tide is weak.

The Captain of the NIAMH, Lt Cdr Paddy Harkin has said that unfortunately, the operation is now being considered as a search and recovery.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
