  • Irish Guards get new Royal Colonel

    Her Majesty The Queen has given her formal approval to the appointment of His Royal Highness Prince William as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

    The second-in-line to the throne, who already holds honorary roles within the RAF and the Royal Navy, will take a close interest in the lives and activities of Irish Guards personnel.

    In his first honorary appointment in the Army, Prince William has become the regiment's first Royal Colonel and will take over from Major General Sir Sebastian Roberts. The Queen is the regiment's Colonel-in-Chief.

        It means that Irish will now line the route...
        Great news for the Regiment though. I believe the queen mum was their last royal Colonel.

          So William has become a Mick! All the best for the future to everybody.
          'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
          'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
          Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
          He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

              He is a mick and as such we dont follow ordinary rules
              Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
              Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
              The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***

                        or - he could go the other way and turn up on a white horse in Ireland declaring to be 'King Billy'

                          i wouldn't mind seeing some reaction from them but I don't want to go on their websites
                          I knew a simple soldier boy.....
                          Who grinned at life in empty joy,
                          Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
                          And whistled early with the lark.

                          In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
                          With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
                          He put a bullet through his brain.
                          And no one spoke of him again.

                          You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
                          Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
                          Sneak home and pray you'll never know
                          The hell where youth and laughter go.

                            How does that mesh, being a Colonel-In-Chief of a regiment, when he is already
                            commissioned as a serving soldier ?
                            "Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"
