It's pitched as a modern replacement for the F-5 and MiG 21 (the F-5 gets mentioned a lot on this site). Opinions?

If we talk about this, we will only upset the anti-fighter people, and they are always right.................:D :D :D"We will hold out until our last bullet is spent. Could do with some whiskey"

In any event, I don't see the AC buying from anywhere other than Europe & North America. There will be a need for some standardisation with NATO/EU, thus limiting the choices. The availability of parts & technical help would also be important. This more or less rules out China."The dolphins were monkeys that didn't like the land, walked back to the water, went back from the sand."

China is on the other side of the world, imagine having to fly over & back to get spare parts or to talk to the design team.
It's a non-runner."The dolphins were monkeys that didn't like the land, walked back to the water, went back from the sand."

I would not say it's a non runner, no more so then anything else, but the F/A/T-50 appears to be a better aircraft, and is at least partly western."We will hold out until our last bullet is spent. Could do with some whiskey"

How often do you get email instructions from Ford on how to change the gear-box in your Escort?
You don't ring the garage if your car breaks down, you bring the car in or the mechanic comes to you. There will be certain instances when the manufacturer will have to work on the aircraft (refits, upgrades, accident investigation). That means that the techs will have to come all the way from PRC, and until they do all the aircraft will have to be grounded.
There's also the rather substantial language barrier. There's a better chance of someone in the AC speaking French or German than there is of someone speaking Chinese."The dolphins were monkeys that didn't like the land, walked back to the water, went back from the sand."

Well most of the Avionics can be configured to be european. As can the weapons. I would go out on a limb here and say the more mechanical parts such as engines etc can be learned and even reproduced by us, or some other western entity for upgrades and replacements if the source becomes unavailable. As for price, I believe Aidan/Paul G are the experts on that!Meh.
