The death has occurred today, 19th February, of our dear friend, colleague, fellow Reservist and former General Secretary of RDFRA, Comdt. Des Coleman (Retd). Des gave many years service to the Defence Forces and to RDFRA. Please keep his wife Mary and his family in your prayers at this sad time.

    May he rest in peace.

Funeral details to follow later. It has been requested that any member of the RDF wishing to attend his funeral, could they do so in Service Dress No. 1.

    Rest in Peace.
"Fellow-soldiers of the Irish Republican Army, I have just received a communication from Commandant Pearse calling on us to surrender and you will agree with me that this is the hardest task we have been called upon to perform during this eventful week, but we came into this fight for Irish Independence in obedience to the commands of our higher officers and now in obedience to their wishes we must surrender. I know you would, like myself, prefer to be with our comrades who have already fallen in the fight - we, too, should rather die in this glorious struggle than submit to the enemy." Volunteer Captain Patrick Holahan to 58 of his men at North Brunswick Street, the last group of the Four Courts Garrison to surrender, Sunday 30 April 1916.

      God rest you Des.

Have many good memories of Des stretching from trips to Belguim to coffee in the mess of his beloved Columb Barracks.

        R.I.P. Sir
Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.

I saw this news on the RDFRA Facebook page first, so it was not news
to me when I saw it here

May Des rest in peace, as madmullen said, "an officer and a gentleman"
