  • British Army Horse killed at Royal Gun Salute

    Members of the public looked on in horror yesterday as an army horse died on parade during a freak accident in London’s Hyde Park.

    The animal, called Murphy, was taking part in the Royal Gun Salute which takes place on June 2 each year to mark the coronation of the Queen.

    Soldiers from the King’s Troop were lining up when the horse tripped while galloping and his legs became entangled in the wheels of a gun wagon, which then dragged him across the grass:

    nice to see the Royal Gun Salute was cancelled as a mark of respect to the fallen horse.

    no doubt he was a great Irish horse.

    RIP Murphy

    Very sad for all involved. I'm sure the RHA consider this loss no different to the loss of a colleague, sugch is the high regard they have for the horses.
    I'm Sure, E2R also feels the loss, given her love of horses.

    Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

        Out of curiosity was the horse shot or get a lethal injection?
        To close with and kill the enemy in all weather conditions, night and day and over any terrain

            Hopefully an injection. A horse bleeds big time when shot. Not a pretty sight quite distressing.

              Thats why I was asking. A lot of civilians about. Plus an injection gives the impression that they're prepared for such an eventuality.

                      It just goes to show
                      Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                      Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                      The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                      The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                      The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                      Are full of passionate intensity.

                        Once I had a horse knackered,to my concern the knacker shot the horse in the head with a 22 while I held the halter,he ignored my concerns regarding the bullet exiting/disintegrating. The horse died forthwith.

                          we didn't just give the impression we were prepared - WE WERE PREPARED!

                          anyhow it was a horrible accident - the poor horses legs must have been mashed.
