my greatgrandfather fought in world war ll like many other irish men..i have a medal at home with re na prainna on it 1939-46 and a picture of a woman with a greyhound on it(i think!!).. could you please help me with what this medal was for..
Its unlikely given these details that your great grandfather did much fighting - (unless drink was involved )
These medals were awarded in several versions for service during "The Emergency", as WWII was known in Ireland. The versions covered different military and civilian services.
