The death has occurred of Richard (Richie) CONROY of The Irish Army (Retired Captain) and Bray, Wicklow

Peacefully in the loving care of all the staff of Kylemore Nursing Home, Bray; beloved husband of Lyla and brother of Fr. Christopher. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, brother, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a wide circle of friends and motoring pals.

Reposing at his home on Thursday, January 3rd, from 5pm to 9pm. Requiem Mass on Friday at 10am in the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Main Street, Bray followed by funeral to Rathdrum Cemetery, Co. Wicklow. No flowers or mass cards please, donations if desired to the Irish Cancer Society.

    May he rest in peace
"Fellow-soldiers of the Irish Republican Army, I have just received a communication from Commandant Pearse calling on us to surrender and you will agree with me that this is the hardest task we have been called upon to perform during this eventful week, but we came into this fight for Irish Independence in obedience to the commands of our higher officers and now in obedience to their wishes we must surrender. I know you would, like myself, prefer to be with our comrades who have already fallen in the fight - we, too, should rather die in this glorious struggle than submit to the enemy." Volunteer Captain Patrick Holahan to 58 of his men at North Brunswick Street, the last group of the Four Courts Garrison to surrender, Sunday 30 April 1916.

A great man gone. I remember him well from the Brugha in the early 80's - his love of the Army only equalled by his love of cars. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.
