If that thing toppled over a helmet would only serve to keep your shattered head in one place, making life a bit easier for the guy who cleans up."The dolphins were monkeys that didn't like the land, walked back to the water, went back from the sand."

There is one still running I believe, though many had the turret removed, and replaced with a 90mm RCL.
Dont know how successful this was.
They served from 1958 to 1973
The photos show the crew armed with the gustav smg...which was in service from 1957 to 2002,but the uniforms look like that worn Pre Congo,so you could say about 1960?
Dont know when the officers Riding breeches were withdrawn from service exactly.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

where to start...
According to Karl Martin,ZD5055 was reported to be immobile at the glen of Imaal,in 1967,but was still used for gunnery training.
The Gun was brought to the tank for firing, and afterwards removed for safekeeping.
It was Buried subsequently(down by the lower gate) where it remained until 2002.
This follows the story I heard earlier from an old timer, which told of a sentry being posted on the tank while the gun was fitted. Even when the gun was not fitted the sentry remained,as the tank could have been scavenged for scrap. We had no vehicle capable of lifting it onto a transporter,so a bug hull was dug,and it was dragged sideways into the hole, where it remained for the best part of 40 years. It emerged in pretty good condition. I think it is in running order again?
