  • an slua muiri role

if there was a threat that a ship maybe carrying illegal immigrants into the waterford key or drugs etc. wat would be an slua muiri's role in protecting that port if any! would love to hear all your suggestions!

    In short ,None.
Illegal Immigrants are the responsibility of the Dept of Justice, and the Garda Immigration unit. Drugs, inside the confines of Waterford harbour would be the responsibility of the Customs National Drugs team.(Revenue Comissioners). The Naval service would become involved out at sea,if required,or requested by the previously mentined authorities. The Aid to civil Power rules cover this. NS officers have the powers of an Authorised officer to search a vessel for drugs, but maybe I am wrong ,but the only input ASM could have to this would be if a member of ASM/NSR was a crewman aboard the ship doing the boarding.

I was asked earlier though,do ASM/NSR still carry out the Port Control tasks?

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
