  • Michael McKnight

    Hello all
I want to trace the Service record, official and unofficial, of the late Michael McKnight(my grandfather), formerly Old IRA/Free State Army/ Irish Defence Forces. Born in 1902, he entered the IRA as a boy of 14 and took part in his first action at the Rineen Ambush, Co.Clare. He served with the IRA through the War of Independence and entered the new Free State Army upon it's foundation. He served for his entire working life, until retirement in the very early Sixties. His sons, Michael and Vincent, served with the 4th Bn, Cork and also served in the Congo and Cyprus.
    regards

Military Archives in Cathal Brugha Bks would be a decent starting point.
The Bks number is in the phone book, in the green pages.
Am wondering if the National museum would be any help here too?
Also, the National Genealogy crowd might be of some help?
