Just the Home service though,or the former UDR units, who were set up as a direct response to IRA activity.

Though its not like the Current UK government needed an excuse to downsize the military. They are cutting back everywhere else, while still expecting overseas commitments to be carried out.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

NI isn't quite as British as Finchley and you don't have part-time Army units from Liverpool or Leeds recruited to patrol the streets of those cities.

Note that one battalion of the regiment will remain, so not all traditions are lost forever.

BS if you ask me. NI is part of the United Kingdom, why shouldn't there be British army units there? Because it makes Gerry happy? Though the 'excuse to downsize the military' thing sounds reasonable as well.

Bullshit. They're the best protection we could have against Gerry and the boys staging a coup. It's been painfully obvious for a long time that our own government has no interest in, and by extension our own security forces have no capacity, to prevent subversives seizing power.

The Royal Irish are Irish, hence the name, moron.

Take these men and women for your example.

                courage to defend it.

Why would they do that? NI is still part of the United Kingdom after all.

Where that probably was true to a point, i think the biggest danger facing us as a nation is now gerry and pals dont need to resort to a coup - voter apathy on the part of all of us will allow sf/ira to gather up all its semi literate knuckle scraping supporters and win a poxy load of votes enough to get a few extra seats and then bertie the spineless to allow them into coalition, then be prepared to render compliments to martin the gun runner and mary lou the big titted knee capping supporting minister

I think that the rangers won't have any problems recruiting now. There is a real problem filling the ranks, and considering that three hole Battalions are being disbanded a good few will transfer.

But I thought troop numbers were being dropped to 5,000. Now I'm no good at maths but would that not mean there being more than 2 Battalions plus surpport units.

with elements of the RIR been stood down, surely it would make sense for ours to try and recruit up there, i know we already get a lot of northeners, but if we took some of a loyalist persuasion and showed them we arent all rapid terrorist scumbag murdering dogs, maybe that would do a lot more for peace in this country than we could imagine
