What's with the black striping down the legs of the riders? I don't recall ever seeing that before.

Those aren't standard DPM trousers and smock/jacket, so I'm gonna guess it's some form of dispatch rider uniform, in DPM. I doubt anybody would be allowed do anything vaguely serious on a bike in normal DPMs, they'd just get in the way, and would offer almost no protection if the rider bites the dust.

Thats exactly what it is. Its waterproof and armoured(in motorcycle speak). Same as the gear I usually wear , only in DPM. Not cheap, but worth every penny.
All Motorcyclists are required to wear this protective clothing when operating the motorcycle.

The presidential escort wear a different uniform, but their body armour is worn under their uniform.

I heard tell that the helmet alone is worth serious bucks and the whole ensemble is a few grand????

Most are now using the Arai Helmet. Retails at about €400 depending on the type.

Welcome to Arai Helmet. All Arai helmets are manufactured by hand and formed around protection, first and foremost. The smooth, round shape is a key Arai signature and primarily designed to ‘glance-off’ and spread impact forces.

I think the clothing is made by Frank Thomas.

Naturally, they are made to order, which is a shame as it makes supply more difficult.

Attached Pics of Military police wearing same.

The Motorcyclist clothing has kevlar inserts, i've "inspected it" close up & the guy to was issued it said it was an excellent piece of kit.

Its not that type of Kevlar.

This Kevlar's abrasion resistance is where its usefulness lies.

I Don't know about the boots. Offroad boots are no use on road and road boots are no use off road...

Are helmets expected to be worn in combat or just in training / normal operations?

How do the cav expect to use motorbikes in combat / recce?

Helmets must be worn at all times.

See other thread on Army motorcycles. As for the use of Motorbikes, I suggest you read this months cosantoir, which has an article telling exactly that.

Why would the wearing of helmets be a problem for recce or in combat if the DR is radio equipped........and sure don't most guys wear helmets under these conditions any way!
