  • MAN Truck Gun Mounts

A hand across the water as my first post.
As uses of the FN MAG and the MAN truck any chance of letting me in on whether you marry the two up?
We across the water are about to receive the MAN in various forms and im wondering what we might have to look forward to by ways of defensive firepower?
    Cheers in advance

Some of the newer DF trucks have roof hatches and MG mounting rails.

Never saw a MAN with the anti aircraft mount on the cab...but they are standard on the Mercedes...and are possible to fit to the Leyland DAF TCVs. I'll see can I dig up a decent piccy of one!

I've seen the hatches on the mans alight. They're mainly used for transport so i presume they would need soe protection but i had always tought that it would come from troops either in the truck or on an escort wit the truck. It would have a limited enough arc of fire aswell. From what i can tell the option of mounting a MAG is there but is rarely used, if at all.

The option is there to have a rail mounted...but I never seen one done so...the only ones to have them fitted as standard are the Mercs.

              Guys you are superstars.
Any chance of a view of the Merc ones too.
We have just brought back the idea used in Gulf 1 too of the trucks being fitted with ring mounts.
The guys are obviously at the sharp end in Iraq at the mo and trying to best equip them is hard as you are playing catch up.
Im looking at ideas to get something done before this truck enters service, so getting it right and in time is better than sellotaping something to an old truck to get ya by if you know what i mean.
Thanks again for all ya help.
Will dig out some piccies of the ones mounted on ours now if i can and you're interested, i know they fit DAF see!

This is one of the trucks that are coming into service soon, if you look carefully you can see all the beer barrels to the left of the picture!
They have attached an almighty one for the REME (Are you familiar with our Corps, Regiments?)variant shown here. Harp anyone?
Now can you see why i want to defend it with an FN MAG!

We were supposed to get them, but they got the Iveco 8x8 astra instead.

The weapon is attached to a pintel mounting

this is effected by the insertion of a gangle pin

the gangle pin is fixed to the pintel which can traveress left or right up or down

The Pintel is fixedin place by a affixing screw but it can be fixed anywhere along the mounting cage

hope that was of some use

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                        The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                        Are full of passionate intensity.

Woah I just read the Brits are buying 5,165 MAN HX and SX trucks in 6 tonne 4x4, 9 tonne 6x6 and 15 tonne 8x8, with options on 2,077 more and there is talk of integrating the engione managment system with the new bowman radio theyre getting to relay info from the trucks sensors back to base to evaluate truc and driver performance only problem is the ECU and AC units along with window wipers can have an cause some EM interferance.

                            Well Bosco
You certainly got your monies worth out of the subscription from that mag!
Went to view them recently they really are a great bit of kit although in fairness there is a bit they can do to Brit Sqauddie proof them.
All will come out in the trials im sure just wondering how hard it will be to tell Teutonic Engineers we have noticed some failings!
Its really not hard to slap some filters over the rotating electrical items to sort that out tho'.

This is our mount fitted to Foden Drops

Hey Im a big engineering geek and you'd be surprised what is published in those engineering mags. I mean last issue had a big thing about the new Asute Class subs and how they are being built in modular form.
