Now that the S61N will soon be replacing the Dauphin on SAR duties (in the North West) -
What will happen with the remaining Dauphin's (3 ?) ?
Will they be used for training only, converted for troop transport or indeed will they be retained long-term whenever the new medium lift helis arrive ?
They need a powerplant upgrade and avionics improvements to stay in service so I'd say in the Irish Air corps they are Kaput...a real country, like Jamaica might buy them and make them the effective machines they should've been though.

Oh no, Jamacia are far too well motivated to go with the Dauphin. I think that a country with more ambition but less resources like Sealand will actually purchase them and make them into a useful force.
I think it would be safe to say that the Allouettes, which are betwen 30 and 40 years old, will still be flying when the dauphins that havent been sold onto a third world country are acting as some form of gate guardian or training airframe.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
If wew were to replace the Dauphin what is the preferred option and is the plan to replace the Dauphin and Alouette with a single type ie the A109 or Lynx

Lynx? Should have done that back in 1986 like they were supposed to..wouldnt be in the shit we are now with the dauphin possibly.
Naval lynx was what eithne was designed for first day,and The army/Battlefield Lynx has served the Brits pretty well over the years.
And the Gazelle, which westland had a part in was not a bad craft for us either..

just a question guys, now that the search and rescue for the north-west is going to be from sligo airport, what will happen with finner? Will the SAR wing be kept there and operate from sligo? Or what about the Dauphin up there. Is it being taken back to Baldonnell or somewhere like that? Or are the two units going to work side by side?
If the Panther had been selected with the correct powerplant and avionics instead of the Mongrel we bought there would'nt have been any problem with it, apart from Eithne compatibility perhaps. The Dauphin/Panther has become a world wide success its just like with the Piranhas the machine was watered down too much to be worht while.

For the present the Dauphin will work from Finner when the S-61 goes for planned maintaince.
Also parts for the Dauphin will only be bought in, on an as required basis, Bal' do not want to be stuck with a load of parts when the hammer finally drops.
