A British tar is a soaring soul,
As free as a mountain bird,
His energetic fist should be ready to resist
                A dictatorial word.

("Ralph", "Boatswain" and the "Carpenter" at different levels: )

                His nose should should pant,
                and his lip should curl,
                His cheeks should flame,
                and his brow should furl,
                His bosom should heave,
and his heart should glow (protrude),
And his fist be ever ready
                for a knock-down blow...

His eyes should flash with an inborn fire,
                His brow with scorn be wrung;
He never should bow down to a domineering frown,
Or the tang of a tyrant tongue.

("Ralph", "Boatswain" and the "Carpenter" at different levels: )

                His foot should stamp,
                and his throat should growl,
                His hair should twirl,
                and his face should scowl,
                His eyes should flash,
                and his breast protrude,
And this should be his costomary attitude.

His eyes should flash, and his breast protrude,
And this should be his customary attitude,

When I said serious answer I did not mean a answer that breaks out in song and dance.

Anyway what does H.M.S Pinafore got to do with a crewmens daily routine?

Try PMing hptmurphy or A/TEL and asking them nicely. Most of us can't answer the question because most of us were never in the NS.

Who is this upstart who dares get narky give orders and make demands in the naval section.
Thats my job. You will cease and desist at once!
I am away for 24 hours and see what happens!
Daily routine aboard ship is weather dependant. If you are in good weather then maintenance has to be done. The branch you are in decides what kind of work this is. As a deckie scrubbing the salt off the deck was pretty important..leave it build up and you get severe corossion problems..salt and steel do not go well together ye see.
Watches also become a large part of the day. Then it also depends on whether you are at sea, at anchor,in port or in the base...
Of course this is on a merchant vessel as I have no experience of NS life either. May I suggest you do a thread in the army section asking how the average 3 star passes the day and see how many serious replies you get.
There are some things that are not discussed on this board. That is all of them. No further silly questions please..I grow weary of thee now.
If Mr Murf decides to reply,he shall do so in his own time.

                          okay sorry for the Delay.

Ship works around a three watch system at sea.Consisting of four hours on and rotates through the system
Morning watch starts at 4 am - 0800
                          fore noon 800-1200
                          afternoon 1200-1600
                          first dog watch 1600-1800
                          second dog watch 1800-2000
                          evening watch 2000-2359
                          last watch 2359-0400

this is broken down into an hour on the helm, an hour on standby an hour on look out in bad weather or after dark and an hour off.

rest off from 0400-1200 on morning watch and from1200-1600 on the last watch

Call the hands at 0700.....standeasy at 1000.....lunch at twelve and dinner at four thirty......evening rations at nine.

Work ship from 0800 until secure at 1600.

These are the executive branch working hours and all this is subject to change during boarding stations anad all other drills....rest off goes out the window at this stage so get the head down when you can....

                          anything else?
Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe

Why are the dog watches only 2 hours?

If you kept them at 4 hours, then you would be doing the same watch all the time. The dog watch allows for a change.
All ships run a similar system whether military or civilian, given a sufficient crew.
