A VILE regimental sergeant major sacked for bullying cadets at Sandhurst did not even spare Princes Harry and William.

RSM Dean Hammond, 39 — nicknamed Osama Bin Hammond and the Herminator by terrified rookies — got his marching orders from top brass on Sunday.

He was ordered to return to his Grenadier Guards regiment six months before completing his prestigious 18-month posting at the world famous military academy in Berkshire.

Hammond is believed to be the first Sandhurst RSM ever to be removed from his post.

He was hauled before senior officers after a stream of complaints from cadets at New College, where Harry was trained and William is undergoing instruction to be an officer.

Hammond, who is 6ft 2in with a crew cut, is alleged to have subjected recruits, including the two Princes, to a torrent of foul-mouthed abuse.

The New College RSM carpeted Harry after he visited a strip club earlier this year — then was caught going to the SAME club himself with ten other Sandhurst NCOs.

A Sandhurst insider said: “The bullying was all verbal but it involved every swear word in the English language — and then some.

“There was no actual physical abuse but what he did to the recruits was intolerable. This is a huge embarrassment for the college and the Army.”

Last night one cadet who passed through Sandhurst with Harry revealed the legendary tongue-lashings that made Hammond the most feared man at the academy.

He said: “Everyone was terrified of RSM Hammond.

“His job was to enforce discipline into cadets and junior staff and it was a job he loved. If you were unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of one of his tongue lashings you knew about it.

“He’s a big guy and always carried a ‘pacy’ which is a brass-ended cane. He had a zero-tolerance approach.

“Like the rest of us, Prince Harry called him the Herminator, after the Arnold Schwarzenegger character. If he lost it he’d shout and scream abuse, using any word he wanted.

“And while he was dishing it out he’d make cadets stand to attention, then at ease, then back to attention. Even the most experienced would get out of step, which would just make him worse.”

Hammond’s wrath was not reserved for cadets.

According to a source, he screamed abuse at low-ranking instructors.

Last night a senior MoD spokesman told The Sun: “There is a difference between robust training and overstepping the mark.

“When that line is crossed we act. We won’t tolerate bullying.”

A regimental sergeant major at the military college where Prince William is training as an officer has been removed from his post.

The senior soldier, named in newspapers as Dean Hammond, has been stripped of his position at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Mr Hammond was allegedly involved in an incident with a cadet on the parade ground, The Daily Mail reported.

The soldier stamped on a pair of boots belonging to the cadet because they were not shiny enough, the paper claimed.

Colonel Roy Parkinson, an instructor at Sandhurst, told the Press Association that an investigation was under way.

He confirmed that Mr Hammond had been suspended, but said details in the report of the incident were "speculation".

"We are not talking about a crime here, we are talking about a possible infringement.

"But until the investigation has been completed we cannot say what has happened," he said.

A military source said Mr Hammond, who is responsible for maintaining standards and discipline at New College, Sandhurst, was not involved in any physical abuse.

It is understood that Mr Hammond had returned to his regiment, the Grenadier Guards, until the investigation was completed.

Harsh or foul language used in bullying, like any type of bullying, is completely wrong.

Harsh or foul language used to train someone to kill the enemy is not only right but is required.

Foul language used during training, instruction or briefings is a poor reflection on the user and will lose the respect of the listeners. When your operational/ on exercise and things go pear shaped I have been known to use the odd swear word........

Foul language- not a problem. It's not as if, in combat, he's not gonna scream blue bloody murder to get his men to follow orders in the heat of battle. No problem whatsoever with screaming, cursing etc to instill discipline into the potential officers. What are they gonna say in battle:

"Gentlemen, have you noticed that enemy machine gun which has been spitting death at us for the last five minutes? If you would, ever be so kind, could you please run through that hail of bullits, crawl slowly towards the instrument of death, and politely ask them if they wouldn't terribly object to catching some very fast moving hot pieces of metal in their torsos so that we could move further through this beatiful countryside to our little campsite (which may even be a regular house with actual doors and windows and a ROOF, if we're really lucky) and get ourselves some lovely hot tea, and perhaps some dinner if we have time?"

Doesn't sound very realistic does it? And training should reflect reality as closely as possible, IMHO. No favours are done (to the officers or the troops who will serve under them) by pretending that leading a platoon in combat is going to be an easy, safe, or enjoyable job.

On the other hand, abusing them for going out and having fun, completely legally and doing exactly the same thing as he was doing smacks of double standards, and anyone who requires standards of his men which are different than those he requires of himself does not deserve to be a leader. Leadership is a responsibility, not an opportunity to abuse your authority to satisfy your own needs to bully those who's positions aren't as strong as yours.

First feed the horses, then the men, then yourself

When I was on my Potential NCO's course the Sgt Maj of the CTD once said-

"Pte X you're stuck up the arse of the man in front of you, God forgive me for cursing on the square."

Foul language in training is generally unnneccessary unless you want to make a point and should be kept to a minimum. The other side of the coin is that Cadets and recruits volunteered. If they don't like the army they can go back to McDonalds or in the case of Princes Harry and William back to nanny.

Not sure if it's still the case, but some years ago it was actually written into the standing orders for the Duty NCO in CTD East that one of his jobs was to ensure that the men did not use bad language or profanity in the vicinity. I kid you not. . .

When the COS was addressing the RDFRA ADC this year, he specifically said there was no need for bad langauge in the DF.
