  • Insoles & Socks

I posted this in the Commando Run thread, but feel it's noteworthy enough to warrant a thread here.

Over the past two months I've been doing a lot of walking & jogging, about 8 miles a day in total & the vast majority of it on hard surfaces. I found my feet, especially my heels were suffering greatly. I had been using a pair of sports insoles, but decided to see if I could get anything better. I went into the Great Outdoors and on the recommendation of the guy there I got a pair of Superfeet insoles. They're €50 a go, but if you're not happy with them after 60 days of use you can get your money back. I've been using them for a bit over a month now and the soreness in my feet has almost completely disappeared. I've no hesitation in recommending them.

http://www.superfeet.com/ - I've been using the green ones listed in the running section.

As an aside, although its not revelant to the Commando Run.

A running shoe shop has recently opened in Bray. Excellent service.

You stand on a gel like board for measuring your foot size and archs (I never knew I had high archs and it could help explain my leg problems.

Then you take a run on a short running track bare foot, your feet are videoed in slow motion to see what happens when your foot hits the ground, as in the angle your ankle goes go.

You then try on a minimum of 3 pairs of shoes, you are videoed running in each.

Mention that your are in the RDF and that you will tell all your friends and you may just get a discount. They can be expensive (I paid €120 minus €10 discount) but well worth paying the extra for the service.
We perform expert gait analysis to get you into the right shoe. We stock Brooks, Mizuno, Asics, New Balance, Altra, Saucony, Garmin, Maurten, Zone 3.

I also got a pair on Scholl insole over a year ago fantastic piece of kit they were just for my normal barrack boots but if you have to spend any lenght of time on the square they are a life saver.

Sorbethane footbeds are excellent insoles. usually about 30-40 euros. go for the fully cushioned model (you can get models that have cushioned heels or toe areas only). and they keep their spring for ages.

used the superfeet insoles for a while last year but found them very hard with not much padding. just an observation on them.

Did you get them out of the Great Outdoors and if so did you get the cash back?

no didn't bring them back. they in an old pair of not often used boots now. there was nothing wrong with them.. i just didn't like them after using Sorbethanes for years. went back to a new pair of Sorbathenes.

i bought the Superfeet because at the time i couldn't find Sorbethanes in any shops and the fitting process, etc. was very professional. its just a personnal preferance between the two types.

                  hi all
Feet are something of a bugbear for me as I have sweaty feet and a lot of hard skin builds up on them. I go to the chiropodist about every six months to get the feet seen to and it makes a lot of difference. I wear working boots every day and have trouble getting good socks.I have recently found a new style in Dunnes Stores, E10 for 2 prs, which are very comfy and provide good support. The are a mixed-material type, with black tops and grey/black bottoms and yellow trim line. They are sold as work-boot socks.worth a shot.
                  regards

I've got a set of those too, and I'll agree totally, with these in your boots, you
feel like you are walking on pillows. Verrrry comfy.

As someone with a fair experience, the Boots athletic insoles killed my sweaty feet

as for heels, I had plantar fascitis due to overexercise and had to get sculpted insoles made by a physio ; cost about 200 but worth every penny and are indispensable when running now.

Recommend Dublin sport clinic opposite Synge St CBS - great service.
