Army Motorcycles

Hayes Diversified Technologies has been supplying gasoline fueled motorcycles and ATVs to military and law enforcement agencies since 1982.

As part of the government’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, our company was awarded a contract to develop a motorcycle engine that would operate efficiently on Diesel Fuel and Aviation Kerosene (JP8).

In cooperation with Dr. Stuart McGuigan and Mr. John Crocker of the Royal Military College of Science (RMCS) in the UK, HDT successfully completed the development of the world’s first purpose built, diesel fueled, motorcycle engine.

As a result of the development program, HDT has been awarded a contract to manufacture up to 522 Diesel Fueled Military Motorcycles for the United States Marine Corps.

Technology

The technology allows for the production of very small, light weight, high performance diesel engines that provide twice the power-to-weight ratio and twice the rpm range of similar displacement diesel engines.

Performance

Fuel mileage range from 96 mpg for the military motorcycle to over 110 mpg for the commercial motorcycle. Top speeds are in excess of 90 mph.

Our family of engines runs efficiently on all types of petroleum diesel, bio-diesel blends, 100% bio-diesel, and all types of aviation kerosene.

Is it true that the Army once selected a two stroke offroader for testing,but someone on the test panel forgot to include 2 stroke oil?

I understand that Diesel bike will also run on kerosene or aviation fuel.

The classic army issue tache and army blue...I love it!!!

saw a couple of scrambler bikes going into a Bks some time ago , Plain red decal holders, riders were dressed in black. Guess who!!

I'm not sure they are actually taches. The Everoak helmet had a wierd facemask thingy. The Gardai Binned it when they fitted the radios in the helmet. Worst helmet in the world by the way.

the HDT Diesel bike is suitable for Kerosene or Diesel from Civilian sources or NATO Diesel without the addition of a small qty of oil , which our nissin's seem to need when supplied by NATO spec fuel in missions overseas

Itchy, the reason for the blue was that these bikes were former Presidential Escort
bikes, Yamaha 500's, as pointed out. These were subsequently replaced by the
Kawasakis (550?), which in turn were recently (last 2 or 3 yrs) replaced by the
Honda Deauvilles in current use. But I agree, I can't understand why the DF don't have an
off road bike in its inventory. And do the DF use quads? The Brits use them quite
extensively. I remember reading an article a while back where an ex-Falklands squaddie
commented that the quad would have been an extremely useful piece of kit for the
Falklands terrain....

There's a thing I just became aware that there are 3 yamaha 660 Quads in Green in use by the chicken farmers hope to post a pic shortly

enclosed some pics of Bandits form 1 mp in Cork the bike was shot in kickham recently in full blues and two's regalia in the background you can just about make out 3 green bikes from cav sqn

I hear the reason they stayed with blue on such a sporty bike is so that the Users would not try to pass themselves off as gardai(As has often been the case when the MPs are seen doing speed traps on the "Garda Only" ramps)

Goldie fish you are sharp that is a sa 80 holster pictured at a recent dr's seminar in dftc
