Rest In peace
Reading about the nice new carriers in Warship FLIR and the arguement seems to be that the carriers haven't been scrapped up to this point as they symbolize the UKs 'go ahead alone policy' without...
Answered your own question in two....money and people.......the 2/3rds that make up navies. No point in having ships if you can't run them or an them!
If your navy is losing high end people day...
I Think the RN has realised that running ships into the ground is not the better option as costs of keeping them serviceable long term don't add up especially when there are new build s in the wings....
1985...year I joined up!!!!
Which goes back to my argument where the MRV perceived concept could be as well supplied by two slightly bigger versions of Eithne while retaining patrolling capacity and not over extend limited...
And the point being these and the UNIFIL e supplies ove rthe years were well catered for by the then existing ships.
The new P60 class are that much bigger and thus could carry out the same...
First mooted about 2003 myself and another member saw reference to it on a naval open day!

Used to happen all the time in Clonmel and a few in Fermoy back in the day, did guard commander a few times my self while corporals were allowed to. Once promoted I didn't for various reasons....
And incorporate it on a frigate rather than an MRV!!!!
Not for one minute do I believe that FP is the only mission of the NS but I do believe that the step taken in OP Pontus and Sophia are the direction we need to be going in with suitable ships .
...
My point exactly a multirole ships is not as 'multi role ' as we would like it to be and to tie up a building cost of €200 million in what is really a single role ship is wasteful for a navy that...
Funny, I said the same thing a number of weeks ago and was nearly lynched....
Or we could just dry lease a car ferry.....
Problem being the ARW are about company sized with multiple tasks which take skills not normally available to the regular infantry men and deploying them in a bog standard infantry role as a whole...
Its been going on for years, but the amounts shipped could as easily be deployed by helis if you had sufficient helis.
But the naysayers we need a frigate to continue the Med Type ops and deploy further afield, so buy the frigates, deploy them in the higher threat areas and keep the OPVs at home.
Your MRV is going...
Certainly does but if you are about to throw away money might as well be something that can defend itself is some o the AORs you mention.
FOR MRV... read Car ferry painted grey!!!!!!! We don't...
Huge fuel consumption, vibration issues....As I said it took until the latest of the P60s to iron out the P50s faults
Nope!
A ball of shite.
the Naval service are now looking at a concept that is ten years old that after Liberia the Army never revisited and was proven to cheaper to deploy peeps and jeeps by commercial...
Seems that they are carried more than driven, to the degree they rarely get brought out and hence are quite unpopular, but then again the whole concept of LTAV seems to have come full circle, being...
MRV is AML 90 replacement, could do with a few more but there won't be another vehicle type purchased especially after the LTAV disaster
But if that creates career vacancies for people not so fed up is that actually a bad thing?
Poor morale will cause more problems than lack of experience, experience can be gained but, if people...
Its no way unique in the army, believe me, I've seen a nurse qualified two days left in charge of a facility because he was the only one available and because he received his certification 24hrs...
.
Dunno about that, Wifes cousin is gone in as a cadet with three years 12bn behind him..hardly a red arse, good switihed on youngfella. Chances are from 108 cadets some will have made the jump...
