  • Yes but bear in mind they're a hungry crew lol . If there are skills to bring to the party though I can confidently say it will get a fair hearing

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"

      • If your interested in becoming an army reserve officer, talk to your Coy Comdr (you have to be either an NCO or a university graduate)

        • i.e. the calling notice is out. First closing date Jan 7th or thereabouts. See your unit as timelines will be tight to get onto the list.

So someone who spent years repeating orts exams is considered as good as an experienced NCO? Someone who attended 11 hours a week of lectures is as good as someone who gave up all their summer leave to attend annual training?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

There always has been provision for it in R5 but it has been extremely rarely used.... partially because we had loads of JNCOs. We are critically short of privates yes but we don’t have enough corporals (or Lts) to train the ones to do have

It is also an opportunity to get higher ranking tech specialist.

The training opportunities for many privates now surpass any previously generally available (if they have been involved).

              • Also if you have a degree - you can be up to 45 years old
"He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

That could be useful for those with specialist skills. Engineering, watchkeeping, etc.

Possibly not so much for a 44 year old prospective infantry lieutenant!

That’s up to the interview board
                    Grade 3 in ITs required

Post commissioning (non mandatory at the minute) you’ll also have to do your YO’s Cse

                    • I would advise anyone thinking about this to bite the bullet on it. All the Board can say is no. I'd view the Grade III as the bare minimum and start thinking about PT schedule right now. Some formations have already released their PT testing dates for 2019 and they include RDF testing dates already , the prepared man will find this very much easier than the rock-up-on-the-day types.

I did this (along with a noted other member of this forum ) in 2000 and havent looked back ... recommended.

                      • I haven't seen the notice. What is the fitness requirement? Grade 3 or Grade 4?

                          • By.... the way .. some phone conversations last couple of days indicate there will be a lot of people applying which is good - but it may be full too ! Also at commissioning you go where you are told not where you might like.
