The plan being proposed by the brass is quite literally pants on head

If what I am hearing is correct, this is going back to the worst days of the old FCA with sub units taking the lead in training instead of a centralised system which a lot of people have been crying out for.

I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

Oddly, those pictured in Cork recently, 1 Cav have a long history of providing relief, in their former location. It wasn't 4bn DROPS trucks I saw delivering IBCs of drinking water around the city during the last big floods in Cork.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

I don't think so, I think the adjustments in numbers in the army highlighted how thinly populated some Battalions were and with the two brigade structure losing battalions was the simplest option, however the choice of losing the 4th Bn vs losing the 12th was a very political one .The loss of 12th would have meant the closure of Limerick, I reckon that was the only deciding factor in it.

I'm still of the opinion that retaining 1 Cav in Cork is a waste of time given the majority of equipment used by the Cav is based in the Curragh.
Time for another break I think......

They don't need to be. They have a reason for remaining in Dublin.

I know that but they also use armour (same as 1 Cav).

In fact, I just posted that link because I taught it was interesting

Folks. This has no bearing on the RDF please take this elsewhere.

In other news I think there will be an Easter GOH again from the RDF this year; big ask . First time in the new series the providing unit will have come from outside the Pale

Actually it does as all the units involved have reserve components.

1 Cavs RDF element formerly 31 Cav will be at the same disadvantage as the full time component and given the nature in which courses are run qualification and thus promotion is very limited to any unit outside of the Dublin / Curragh area that does not have its onw equipment on site.

2 Cav 62/11 was never at this advantage because of its proximity to the curragh and now the 1st Armour/Tank crowd. While numbers wise it might look nice to have a reserve element on the books how limited will thes people be due to geographic location.

I think the removal of 4th Bn from Cork sevre limited the ability of the reserve to recruit in the south as corps type units and artillery, cav and logs are restricted in establishment figures.

Death by starvation of new blood outside the primary training centre for non inf units?

And cue the E Bde to the rescue
Get used to it as besides the NSR you may be the only Reserve Units in the country if the disparagy in training needs for units beyond the Curragh is not adressed.

1 Cav and 2 Cav are getting their own CRV's fairly soon.Should solve all those problems.

"Let us be clear about three facts:First of all.All battles and all wars are won in the end by the Infantryman.Secondly the Infantryman bears the brunt of the fighting, his casualties are heavier and he suffers greater extremes of fatigue and discomfort than the other arms.Thirdly, the art of the Infantryman is less stereotyped and harder to acquire than that of any other arm".

Only because the DF management are reluctant to provide overnight accom to those from outside the pale, instead insisting that they make their way to Dublin on the morning of the event.

Do the DF realise that the Rising didn't just happen in Dublin? There was a considerable(and ultimately tragic) engagement of British Forces outside Fermoy.
