    “A Degree holder...”

Doesn’t even have to be a serving reservist but can include reservists of any rank

That’s the regulation (that was probably written in the 1950s).

Whatever is in the conveying order & JIs must be in line with DFR

I’m not sure if they could decide you have to be under 30 and a degree holder, but they couldn’t decide you have to be under 50

So as previously discussed they are using the existing regulations to its fullest to expand the potential pool of population.

Surely the pool is large enough already though or I'd wonder if the age profile among regular attendees in some units has gone that old... It may be facilitating getting a number of potential applicants already tapped for the course who have age against them onto the course.

As for the 3* thing, even it was opened up - I couldn't see a 3* getting on the course where there are NCO applicants already available unless he/she has a specialised skill set.

Will have to wait and see how it is advertised (eg they may say you have to be 3*). Firstly they have to want to do it.

That 3* (like a Sgt) will need to be recommended by Coy Comdr, Unit Comdr (possibly GOC) and have a degree just to get an interview.

They then have to pass the interview, medical (to the standard above) and ITs, to get a place on the course.

Then they have to complete the course, pass all the tests and only then can they get commissioned.

Said three striper needs to make himself more familiar with DFR R5, the Defence Act, etc.

It's the 1954 Act. One of the problems we have at the moment due to high turnover is a lack of knowledge ( both PDF and RDF, AND THE DOD ) of the provisions of the act

    S119

Each of the persons mentioned in this section shall, for the purposes of this Act, be a
person subject to military law as a man—
    (a) a man of the Permanent Defence Force at all times,
    (b) a reservist when—
    (i) he is called out on permanent service or in aid of the civil power, or
(ii) he is called out for training, exercise or other duty under this Act,
    or
(iii) he is voluntarily attending training, or
(iv) he is undergoing treatment in a military hospital, orhe is employed on military service under the orders of an officer,
who is himself subject to military law, or
    (vi) he is in uniform

    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/1...en/html#sec119

You can look that up on your phone in less than 30 seconds.

3 RDF on the EOH last night, did a super job representing the 2 Cav Reserve element. There were plenty of them on the EOHs for the 2016 celebrations, St Patricks Day, Easter Sunday etc

Only 2 Bde Cav Sqn do the EoH, so only their members (PDF & RDF) do it.

There’s at 3 or 4 RDF guys have done the 6 week course.... if your trained and available

    Great course. Tough test.
I did it about ten years ago, three students tested at a time. First half was slow speed control on the Square in the Brugha. Cones, driving onto a plank etc. The more you practice the better you get at it. The deauville is ideal for this, unfortunately you won't get a Deauville for the test. Pass/fail test. Fail here and you can get changed and head home. Stage 2 is on the road that afternoon. My test leg was Brugha to Blessington. Next student had Blessington to Naas. Last one was Naas to Rathmines, avoiding the Naas road of course.
German 1: Private Schnutz, I have bad news for you.
    German 2: Private? I am a general!
German 1: That is the bad news.
