  • Just a thought...If the RDFRA was tasked with makingthe same savings as the VFM report has done, how would they do it?

Maybe thay would question if a force of 9,500 PDF and 4000 RDF still needed 13 Generals, 40 colonels and 93 Lt/Colonels?

      • I think the submission was on the RDFRA website

        • This is how I see it. The VFM is not ideal but we'll have to suck it up and do the best we can with what we can. That RDFRA proposal release was not ideal either but it should be viewed in that it was released before it was finished. One of the things that gets to me is the deafening silence from RDFRA. Nothing since the sulky statement on the day of the release. If what I've heard from several people is true, they're too busy infighting to pull their heads out of their arses and get on with the job.

My point is this: we've been cut as we've expected. We have something as close to integration as we're going to get for the time being so we'll push on with that. What annoys me most is the whole working for free thing. Not that explicitly but how it's been suggested; we'll allow you to work with the PDF but for free and for no grat at the end of it.

I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

          • Agreed in your second paragraph buck but:

RDFRA had been told they would get 7 days notice of the meeting prior to publication, they got 20 hours (it had already been approved by Cabinet at that stage).

If you go on the PDFORRA website there is a press release saying it has been published and nothing since!

Ok fair enough but some update would be nice. I know it affects the PDF too but not as much as it affects us though

Well supposedly we have three years...perhaps it'll be our last hurrah...

                    • So with the impending end of the world, any chance the RDF will be mobilised? Slim to none is my guess.

                        Did you not get word?

We are all mobillised. There are christmas parties and standdown parades to attend.

So if my coy is to the part of a PDF unit then where does the reserve start?

Is the reserve to be Bn spacific?
So instead of it being the RDF it would be the sum of reserve elements of the PDF?

Why would there be any reservist above the rank of Captain or Cmdt even?

Great point Saab; if the reserve is to become companies within battalions, I can't imagine the PDF/DoD let that company be commanded by a reserve officer, so a few lieutenants should do the trick.

And I imagine the PDF will just be called the "army", although the companies will probably be called "X Reserve Company", just in case anyone forgets their place

                          • Ah yes. "Single force concept" - with two CS 4's haha
"The Question is not: how far you will take this? The Question is do you possess the constitution to go as far as is needed?"

                            • But is if we are part of the Bn then surely there can only be one CS4???

Even if someone decided that the Reserve Coy should have a different structure due to geographic spread or something it could still be contained in the one CS4. After all not all coys etc in the PDF are identical but all covered under the one CS4.

                              • A single force concept with 2 legally separate forces (see Defence Act).
