Ltes not forget that there are recomendations, and a lot of intrest groups, such a reservists will scream blue murder about it. Asgard and Equestian schools were kept in the 1980's for example.

CBB should have been gotten rid of three years ago if it was being sold at all. The arse has fallen out of rez and commercial since.

Overseas peacekeeping expenditure to be counted as part of Ireland’s expenditure on foreign aid
        Very clever move...

Maybe a smaller more streamlined & standardised RDF will be more useful. Cut it down to two Bdes or something with just one trg centre?
If at first you don't succeed, then call in an airstrike.

                  RDF cut by 2 thirds

From the McCarthy report of An Bord Snip:

Starts on page 39, RDF bit at top of page 40 -
"The Group also considers that a smaller, more focused Reserve Defence Force (RDF) could deliver a more usable capability to the Defence Forces for less expenditure. It recommends accordingly that the RDF be reduced by two-thirds."
                  - link to report on RTE

While it could be argued that there is some merit to this suggestion I'd like to hear more about the "usable capability" - that is a loaded term that could mean nothing (just words to reduce costs) or everything (deployments etc.).

What is the current strength of the RDF?
There may be only one time in your life when your country will call upon you and you will be the only one who can do the nasty job that has to be done -- do it or forever after there will be the taste of ashes in your mouth.

As well as barracks, the Defence property portfolio consists of a diverse range of facilities including
8 training facilities (accounting for 16,800 acres), 7 firing ranges (1,091 acres)

                        Surely there is duplication there

the DFTC is a training area and a range area - likewise the Glen etc

                        is the Boards figures right

I think that RDF members should be allowed to wear the new clipped wings badge
"Fellow-soldiers of the Irish Republican Army, I have just received a communication from Commandant Pearse calling on us to surrender and you will agree with me that this is the hardest task we have been called upon to perform during this eventful week, but we came into this fight for Irish Independence in obedience to the commands of our higher officers and now in obedience to their wishes we must surrender. I know you would, like myself, prefer to be with our comrades who have already fallen in the fight - we, too, should rather die in this glorious struggle than submit to the enemy." Volunteer Captain Patrick Holahan to 58 of his men at North Brunswick Street, the last group of the Four Courts Garrison to surrender, Sunday 30 April 1916.
