Must have been changed since they brought it in, that being the last time I bothered to read about it.

These uniform improvements seem reasonable enough. Our new unitofrms have a zipper instead of buttons on the shirt/jacket and velcro on the pockets. The zip is a let more comfortable under body armour than buttons, the buttons chafe and cause "hot spots" Otherwise the new US uniform is actually the most useless uni in the world unless you are hiding on granny's couch or in pea gravel.

We went to driflo t-shirts, only to discover they become "melt to fit" in fire/explosion/IED, hence the nomex issue shirt for overseas. Stupid really, firefighters are not allowed to wear driflo, has to be cotton or nomex....saw that one coming when we got the new kit.

Can't speak to the rest of the changes as I don't wear the Irish uniform.

But, in the spirit of wasting money, it has recently come to light that the tests for our new "ACU" were "fudged" and the current pattern came in 7th in testing but was strangely adopted. Only recently after some prodding from Congress and a newspaper, did the Army reluctantly agree they may have got it wrong and are scrambling to sort out new uniforms and will probably go back to a green type DPM for woodland and brown type DPM for the desert. After all, what's $5 billion of taxpayer money..........sigh....A

Doe we know if the Fleece/Norwegian is available to RDF. I'm asking this as it is coming into winter and i have a Pl who have no Fleeces/Norgie/ jumpers, and parading outdoors the troops are suffering.
            Have a look at this:

Print that off and bring it for a "chat" with your Q.
If he won't give you the gear, bring said list ot your coy comdr and point out that it is his responsibility to ensure the well being of his troops and if they get ill from being ordered to stand out in the cold without being issued cold weather gear it will be his head on the block.

The route of least resistance is to actually to separate the troops from the enviornment. See the 'What's killling the reserve' thread for examples of how we're not allowed get the troops wet, cold, hungry or tired in any way, shape or form. Heaven forbid that they experience a little hardship in their military training.

Its not a zip they suggested, buttons are staying, they want to change the style of pocket to ones that will be only useful for holding a pen and the odd bit of small paper. You probably taught the smock referred to your equivalent of the combat shirt, it's our jacket.

Pockets they have suggested, from what I understand.

Now, why didn't we think of that back in the mid 1970's to mid 1980s, when pleading for an issue of a second set of combats for Cash & Explosive Patrols, we had to make do with ponchos, and in the winter ponchos with an army blanket worn as a poncho liner.

But then again we had no alternative but to tough it out.

Warm and dry. Nothing like it.

Hooray for the " reinforced groin area in pants " option !! I'm broke getting them re-sewn at 8 euros a pop ! Seriously, some outfit somewhere in the world must have put some thought into how to get flexibility with strength.
