Hi folks, long-time reader, first time poster.
I'm contributing to a website on Irish history, www.theirishstory.com and I did two podcast interviews with military historian Padraig Lenihan of UL on war in the 1600s in Ireland.
First interview here http://www.theirishstory.com/2010/05...ry-in-ireland/
Second interview here http://www.theirishstory.com/2010/05...ntury-ireland/
Among the interesting things from a military point of view, is that he describes the Cromwellian camaign against Irish guerrillas or 'tories' as 'counter insurgency 101', where the population was moved to 'protected hamlets' to deny food and shelter to guerrillas.
Also, he talks about the scale of warfare being revolutionised, in terms of the numbers, hardware and tactics employed especially in the Jacobite war of the 1690s.
Hope people find them interesting,
JD
