The DPP and his staff are moving in there- its handy for the Four Courts and the New Criminal Courts-
Its not the first time the Defence Forces have had to make a sacrifice for others
nor will it be the last-Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Whose history?
Most of the Army land is leftover from the British Army occupation at the end of the 19th century, when they required lots of large facilities to stage troops heading off on emperial conquests. For example, Elizabeth fort, in Cork(now the site of a garda station, but the fort walls are retained) was once the main staging post for troops going to the Colonial wars in America and Canada.
The Irish Army of the 21st century no longer needs hundreds of small packages of land to maintain, when in the modern environment, mobility, not presence is the key.
It made no sense at all to have a DFHQ located outside any main barracks in the country. Whatever about DoD.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
