Ireland is a weird financial environment. We are among the richest on per Capita Gdp . We have a National GDP around 290Billion USD with growth forecast of 4% over the next couple of years. Norway who have a similar population, and admittedly a 25% higher GDP, has a Navy with 3900 personnel and more than 50 ships. We have an innate belief that Maritime influence and Defence is somebody else's duty. The mandarins over years have killed off major maritime structures in ship building and repair. We have no tangible Maritime policy but fortunately we have a genesis within the Maritime College where one might be born.

Even when we had an actual department of the marine, its work did not venture far from fisheries and ferries. Instead of assisting the marine industrial environment, it found new ways to hinder it.
The root of the problem lies with each government representative working to their voter base, rather than for the good of the nation. Our population complains and whines about his local TD not getting him the free house or medical card he wants instead of demanding said TD works with all the other TDs to create a country where he would need neither.For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

The Damen Crossover seems to provide a CoTS for what is required. In particular the Crossover 131 Logistic.
Damen Crossover 131 Logistic (XO 131 L) is developed with the main focus is on payloads with higher weight. The XO 131L is fitted for self-defence and has for her logistic role.

I'm not totally convinced about the NS having a troop/equipment type transport or logistics ship (but maybe just an extended OPV with 2 helicopter spaces..? and whatever number of troops could be embarked below the extended helicopter deck area), but, if it was to happen, has anyone suggested the Singapore Navy 'Endurance Class'?
Principally, they have a crew of 65 only, are not a 'massive' vessel (about the size 0f the Danish Absalon and the Damen Crossover), and certainly not a first of class... with four built for the Singapore Navy as LST in 2000/2001, and more recently one built as an LPD in 2012 for the Royal Thai Navy... costing $134 in 2008.
The Endurance Class are also relatively lightly armed and similarly to the existing NS ships (vs. the well armed Absalon). The crew size of 65 and the price/source nations could be more doable for the nation (if going down that route).
The Endurance Class Landing Ships Tanks (LSTs) are in service with the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The ships are…

The thing about anything from singapore...
They are designed around a physically smaller crewman. Their accomodation is also high density for a crew whose average height would be 5'2".
This is not an option for a crew of mostly european heritage.
If you could get around that, then maybe.For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

The Irish Defence Forces are sending two observers to Ex Southern Katipo with the kind support of the armed forces of New Zealand.
