Errrm, what? Strales is a different turret for the same old gun. It is even available in a non-penetrating version (sovraponte) with magazine in the turret.

One thing that was mentioned is that designs for the NS need to be sea kindly. The X-bow has seen a lot of application in the offshore field. A good video to demonstrate this is this one:

There was a contender by Vigor for the USCG cutter design that used one.

      • Interesting basis for an EPV design, at only 94metres. Similar to their OPV2400.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

Sea keeping: Operations in Sea State 6 and Survival in Sea State 9
AAW, ASuW, ASW and asymetric warfare capable and space for unmanned vehicles

            Vanguard 105 OPV
Displacement 2500 tons, speed 28 knots, range 4000 nm and endurance 21 days.
Enhanced Stealth with reduced radiated noise and radar cross section

            UAV, USV and UUV operations

Vanguard 95 Naval Research & Support
Displacement 2300 tons, speed 15 knots, range 8000 nm and endurance 45 days.
            Hydrographic and oceanographic research
Detached naval support operations using embarked crafts and modules
Aviation facilities with hangar for medium sized helicopter
            Dynamic positioning
            SILENT class notations

            Vanguard 80 Patrol Vessel
Displacement 1500 tons, speed 25 knots, range 3000 nm and endurance 14 days.
Stealth design with all round sensor coverage
COTS standard with militarised mission system
Helo deck and UAV operations, stern LARS USV operations

The vanguard range of ships seems like possible good options for the naval service given the well established relationship over the last few decades

What relationship do we have with ST MARINE I'd love to know. Singapore military industries usually build things for the Asian market to be used by Asian people. Caucasian crew won't fit in the accommodation space.
Try is sometime. Same goes for their APC. 12 locally produced troops or 8 European made ones.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

              • Yep there seem to be quite a range of similar vessels .....more or less derived from LE Eithne.... Here's another.

                • Remember their APC (Terrex) was designed in Ireland hence the Terex 2 takes 3 crew and 11 US marines.

                  • So, what exactly IS the state of Eithnes air search radar? was it ever repaired / replaced? or is it still U/S, sitting in a room gathering dust, never to be replaced, another capability chipped away as the rest were? Attrition replacements = one of the DF biggest problems

"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

                    • The antennae is in place. There was a tender for an updated user interface recently. Last time it acted in the air role I believe was during the GWB visit to SNN .
It's been a while since I have seen it rotate. Is the ops room still used?

i thought that STX Canada Marine, now Vard, was originally part of the ST Marine company but I after further research would appear to have been wrong. Interesting selection of ships though

Interesting drone video of P31 released in the last few days on the naval service Facebook website. Seems in very good condition but to be fair, there is not many western Demrocacies with a 32 year old flagship. The people who serve in the naval service deserve much better conditions

Not so much. The antennae remain but what are they plugged into? Sat domes were added in early 90s so crew can talk to relatives via Skype etc. Also for sky tv.
Both vital for long patrols away from land.

                              • AFIK no DA05 tx/rx or displays, no Plessay Sonar, downgraded ops room, all helicopter avionic and handling systems gone. At 33 years old it is unfortunate that nobody stood against diminishing her overall dependability and planned effectiveness in her active surveillance role.
