  • The EPV project has not gone to tender yet. It went for RFP, but as described at length in the dail by the minister, and posted here, the NS have gone back to finalise what they want the EPV to be.
The RFP let them see what was available.

It depends on when they are going to be delivered, start work on one now and one in a years time, they may be able to pay for both over 4/5 years at a push!

If you ran a business would you spend approx 3 years working on a contract, deliver the goods to the customer and then wait for the payment for another 3 years??

How would they purchase materials & pay staff? Don't say bank loans!
Actually yes, thats how business usually works, and the DOD do know that. Its a good loan, if a company gets a government contract, bankers know that governments unless the ships are complete rubbish, will pay and they ask for loan to cover themselves, it will be reapid, at a nice profit for all. That's why as a rule of thumb, big defence contractors are considered blue chip companies, all their work is with governments.

You'll also find that if Appledore get the contract, the british government would put pressure on the banks, most of whom they actually own, to provide loans, Appledore winning a contract from the irish government is after all safeguarding british jobs.

Then again, the appledore design might not win, it if its the Frassmer, they could be built/subcontracted to Asmar in Chile where costs are much cheaper.

        EPV?
The vessel bears a striking resemblance to the original EPV concept from page 1.

                        • With all those helicopters it looks like a floating replacement for Baldonnel.
There may be only one time in your life when your country will call upon you and you will be the only one who can do the nasty job that has to be done -- do it or forever after there will be the taste of ashes in your mouth.

                          • Apparently not as much as you would think, €150 million according to this pdf file, it appears a genuine but somewhat disjointed document(s), got to seite(page) 4 below the CSL:

                            • Have to ask tho would it be overkill for our use seeing as A/C pilots would not want to go back to sea.

                              • Unless the Naval service had its own pilots.

I notice on an unconnected note, there are no Air Corpse cadetships this year.
