Life on barracks during training

It depends on how your platoon performs during the weeks training.All leave wheater annual or local(weekend )is a privelage and not an entitlement.Your CO can confine ye on the advice of your platoon commander should he see fit.Some units have a ploicy of not allowing any time off for the first few weeks but this varies.Worry less about your time off and more about preparing yourself.When you do get time off during training its too short but boy will you appreciate it!"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

Personally i think it goes a great way to building camaraderie, nothing like spending a weekend polishing floors etc to pull you together with your Pln mates, as you grumble about the injustice of the Sgt denying you leave because Murphy keeps tripping over his own dirty bootsCRIME SCENE INSTIGATOR

As someone who trained a few recruit platoons
I used to hate seeing the troops get weekend passes -
the reason why is that for the first few weeks its hard work teaching a young lad to
be self sufficent - wash his own gear- clean his own bed space etc;
first morning home- mammy replaces me and makes the litte shite his brekkie in bed
scrubs his kecks- tucks him in and tells him how great he is;
come sunday they are thinking
mmmmmm Mammy v Sgt Hedge who will love me more
and bang another potential soldier is gone;
Sned Dublin lads to Donegal to train- send Cork lads to Dublin and Kilkenny lads to Galway
let them build up espirt de corp and friendships
more importantly let them grow upThings fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

I've seen this a few times.
On another note about being confined to barracks, what if you need certain supplies like shower gel, shaving gel/razors and stuff like that??
