    • The Brazilian Navy have just announced their intention to replace their current carier witha Franch built, possibly Nuclear Carrier (CVN) although the French Navy have been declined funds to build a second one of their own.

Now why is this relevant. Given France has been very prominet in carrier lead operations in the recent past and does need a second unit I wonder are the French waiting in the wings to see what the status of a second UKRN unit will be and the feasibilty of leasing such a vessel should it become available.

In other news the F35 intended to be used on the carriers has been restricted in operations from USN Assault ships due to the ongoing difficulties the thrust from its vectoring engine has created.

Heat damage to deck coatings has caused the restriction until the decks can be upgraded.

Aren't RN banking on using the French carrier?

i believe it will be 'nice to have' rather than a 'must have', given the occasional reluctance of the French to get involved to the same degree in some of the scrapes we get into, some of which in the future may understandably not suit their own foreign policy, and vice-versa too with them banking on British aircraft operating from it's decks.

not, i think, anymore - the French carrier was going to be vital if we had continued with the 1x CATOBAR Carrier + F-35C policy, as our carrier was going to be vital to the French while they only had CDG.

however, with 2x STOV/L Carriers + F-35B its no longer such an issue - the septics have also, in their hugely helpful manner, started getting angsty about us putting F-35 on a French Carrier because those nasty, underhand Frenchists will steal all its secrets. which is ridiculous - don't they know the French have a perfectly servicable intelligence gathering agency that undertakes industrial espionge?

interesting about the Brazilians though - they've been going on about uprating their carrier capability for donkeys years, but they've bought (or are in the process of buying a French SSN and the licence to build 6 more. to quote Lord of the Rings ''build me an Army worthy of Mordor...''.

            • Aren't RN banking on using the French carrier
When it was questionable whether both ships of the class were to be built it was suggested that one would be in commission with the RN while the second would be available for dry lease.

Given their inability to fund a second carrier France were thought to be potential operators.

I'm still not convinced that the F35 V/STOL will be as operationaly capable as some of the conventional options to include the Rafale and could prove to be the weak link in the RN Carrier programme.

The RAF has had far to long an input into Naval Aviation , to their own benefit, and has proven to be a huge mistake leaving the UKRN with huge gap in its capabilities in the recent past and short term future.

The Brazilian navy in a very short space of time will exceed the capabilities of many European and Scandanavian Navies , and with newer submarines and carrier types may exceed the capabilities of those previoulsy dominant in the areas.

They are without the most powerful navy in the South American continent at this time.

                • On June 11, 2013, teams at BAE Systems, Scotstoun, moved the aft island of HMS Queen Elizabeth onto a barge for the 600 mile journey to Rosyth

Great weather meant smooth sailing for the barge bringing the aft island. It arrived at the assembly site - Babcock's Rosyth Dockyard - on June 21

                    • Hold the presses. Seems there are moves afoot to have the Prince of Wales renamed Ark Royal since the last ship named as such has gone to Turkey in the last few weeks for destruction.

                      Selling price £2.3 million.....

Also in the news last of the type 42's HMS Edinburgh has been paid off.Class was in service since 1975 taking part in every major engagement the RN was committed to in that time.

Last of the good looking warships has passed on.
