For some reason when I click onthe "reserve" tab the page would not display properly until I zoomed to 125%.
    Its all right now.
    followed the forum link.
Even looked at registration but it just throws up an error.

I suppose all you PDF lads will be leaving IMO now that the DF have their own "sanctioned" board??

I see also that it is all just a media excercise.
      Alledgidly for the RDF
Tasks are assigned to the RDF to support the PDF in fulfilling these roles. These include:
      • Augmentation/reinforcement of the PDF.
      • Provision of logistic support.
      • Provision of armed escorts.
      • Augmentation of Naval Service on fishery protection patrols.
      • Staffing of Military Posts during periods of PDF deployment.
      • Radiological Monitoring.
      • Ceremonial Duties at national and local events.

        • Augmentation/reinforcement of the PDF. (Barrack Duties on weekends/holiday time)
        • Provision of logistic support. (Truck Drivers)
        • Provision of armed escorts. (to what?)
        • Augmentation of Naval Service on fishery protection patrols. (but not on any patrol where the use of ships armament may be required)
        • Staffing of Military Posts during periods of PDF deployment. (see point 1)
        • Radiological Monitoring. (when the Commies drop the big one...)
        • Ceremonial Duties at national and local events. (Paddys Day Parade unit?)

Hard to justify the money spent....

That depends on how you look at it - but that discussion is for the future of the AR thread

What and let this place turn into another Boards or Politics.ie??
See my above post for the reason why its unlikely we would migrate.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

                        Ireland's Military Archives go online

Ireland's Military Archives have been made available online for the first time.

Ireland's Military Archives are available online for the first time.

The Archives, which are held in Cathal Brugha Barracks in Rathmines in Dublin, can now be accessed via a new website - militaryarchives.ie.

The site has been launched in conjunction with the National Archives of Ireland, and is designed to appeal to historians, genealogists and members of the public researching their family tree.

By March, it plans to publish the Bureau of Military History Collection 1913 to 1921, online, including 36,000 pages of witness statements, digitised and fully word searchable.

This will be followed by the first release of the Military Service Pensions Project - material which the Defence Forces say "will provide a major and never before seen insight into the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence in particluar".

Very different - when I first came across it I thought the was a browser issue. Looks good though.

As an aside whats the origin/purpose of the dot over the g on the crest oglaig (oglaigh) .... I'm sure its been there all the time but I never noticed it before?
