Who / what is doing the transport?

Is it a bit silly keeping the hi-vis on the EOD truck? It makes targetting easier.

Is it the anti-skid surface on the APCs roofs that makes them look dirty?

What happens when you get a rolling sea and the vehicles shift, despite being strapped down?

Yes, tenders for the vehicles are public knowledge, wiki is probably accurate. The # going to leb is probably not so public.

The number of mowag Piranhas is public record. 40 APCs in the first batch,(including medic command and workshop versions) 25 in the second batch and the balance made up of CRV and MRVs for Cavalry.
    80 in total.
25 LTAVs will eventually be delivered, but I don't think the second batch arrived yet.

They won't shift when they are that close together. The danger of shifting is higher when they have room to move. Momentum etc.

I know someone out there with the advance party, settling in well and getting things up and running for the next chalk arriving in the future. Only complaint so far was it was a tad on the warm side over there.

Gear should be passing Malta about now. If it were being carried by the NS, it would mean stopover in Valetta.

Blowing up a EOD truck has a lot more brownie points to blowing up a generic truck.

Your missing the point.. a bit of high-vis on the front will not make a damn bit of difference if its targeted or not.

But it will lead to it being picked out and targeted.

Are you going to trigger your bomb as EOD truck goes by or generic stores truck goes by?

The EOD truck was purchased and fitted out with EOD in mind, so it can carry all the equipment properly and safely.

If only that were true RGJ! There's 48 on a roll of honour that would suggest otherwise, many of whom were targetted by the IDF, SLA, Hezbollah..........etc. etc.

that is over a hell of a long time when situations were much worse than they are now.

the US Army lost nearly 250 men in one day there and the French lost over 50 men in the same attack - you have to put things into perspective here.

hardly 'recent events' and hardly getting whacked on a daily basis.

yes it's dangerous but lets not big it up so much that people are worried about a bit of hi-vis paint on an APC.

EOD Duros are armoured. Would they not send them if there was a threat of special treatment?

of course there is a threat and therefore that's why you send soldiers and not civvies, but two attacks in 3 years is hardly high tempo operations against the UN that calls into question a bit of high vis paint on a vehicle (apologies - i thought it was MOWAG and not a Duro).

    Crossed wires RGJ.

The EOD vehicle in the pic above is an unarmoured(I think) Scania. My point was that if they had deemed the threat level high enough would they not have sent the armoured Duro EOD vehicles instead. Although I'm not aware of their actual availability, given they were supposedly unpopular/unreliable in Kosovo.

I'm actually with you though, there seems to be a lot of second guessing threat levels on here over said hi vis paint.

    For Rhodes:

    Only pic I could find.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOWAG_Duro

Little piece there regarding their reliability issues in Irish service. Though it is wikipedia. Pinch of salt and all that.

yeah sorry lads - i went off on a tangent about MOWAG Piranha and not MOWAG Duro however it's actually a Scania lol.

anyhow - there is a real threat out there and i'm glad the Irish DF are going well equipped from the outset but lets just be realistic about the threat.
