This isn't the mess. The public can see the insults to Serving officers being posted here, and it does the reputation of the DF no favours.
Not to mention that the comment was right out of order and totally uncalled for.

Have to agree it was OOO wrt to both Lt/cdr O Brien and HRH.
Having said that personally I reckon some ....of the year awards are bullshy ite of the highest order with some a cheap effort on the part of the sponsor to associate itself with successful recipients .There are lots of other citizens giving 100% to their families, job and community and never get any fanfare and dont need any as they are doing what is expected of them.

What -so know IMO is the guardian of good taste....?
People need to get a grip - "the public" that view this site wouldn't understand half the Bs- those that do can see it for what it is- BS.
I'm sure she's sleeping a lot better now that someones got a 3-day ban from here.

It was a lousy cowardly remark. I feel no sympathy for him.
BTW her father was a civilian. So no nepotism there.

No name calling, infractions have been issued.

With regard Bandits ban, his comments were crass and insulting and completely uncalled for regardless of whether or not the person was an officer. The ban will stand.

Bandit has now received a 4 day ban. IMO is not a democracy, when a moderator tells you to stop you should stop.

With the help of the Irish Naval Service, the UL Marine Robotics team deployed the advanced Smart Remotely Operated Vehicle called ROV Latis which has patented technology features, from the LÉ Eithne to undertake submarine archaeological investigations of wrecks off the Cork Coast.

Maritime cluster project receives national award

    LORNA SIGGINS

The new concept of an Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster in Cork has received a public service excellence award by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

The cluster, which involves the Naval Service, University College Cork and the Cork Institute of Technology, is the first such project to have been selected for the national awards. It was among 20 projects selected for its “innovation” potential and “excellence” from 190 applications. The cluster is building the world’s largest renewable energy research centre, which aims to create up to 52,000 jobs in wave energy by 2030.

Dr Valerie Cummins, of the Cork project, said the award was an “acknowledgement of the hard work, leadership and talent of the researchers, Naval Service personnel, trainers, educators, agency and industry stakeholders”.

Slightly off thread, but on the heading of the NS showing us how it's done...

"The Naval Service patrols the 15% of EU waters that are under Irish sovereign control.
In the past five years the Naval Service has also intercepted €1.7bn worth of drugs in Irish waters.
It has carried out 757 boardings and made eight detentions so far this year. Last year, it carried out 1,264 boardings and made 10 detentions."

    Numbers looking good!!
