Air Corps Complete Time Critical Air Ambulance Mission to London

The Air Corps successfully completed the transfer of a priority one patient from Dublin to London, Heathrow on the CASA fixed wing Aircraft overnight in response to a request from the Health Service Executive Ambulance Control Centre.

The priority one patient was brought to Baldonnel under Garda escort from the mid west and departed Casement Aerodrome at 10.30pm last night and arrived in Heathrow at 1145pm.

The patient was brought to a waiting ambulance on arrival and transferred by road to hospital.

This is the Air Corps 20th Air Ambulance Mission of 2012.

The Air Corps maintains dedicated aircraft and crew on standy-by for the Air Ambulance transfer of patients within the State and internationally.

      • The last sentence is interesting,is IAC now dedicating aircraft for AA 24/7 regardless of other op needs.

        Comment

        • Sounds reasonable by AC logic, sure what else are they doing? If they were not doing AA they'd be doing nothing..

Of course the other AC logic is that it costs nothing!

          • Jesus lads......glass half empty??

Im sure aircraft and crews are on standby for whatever is required, just happened to be an air ambulance this time. Next time it may be transport of a bomb disposal team!!

How about a 'well done lads, good job'??

            Comment

            • Transporting an EOD team, that would be novel.. A military aircraft transporting military personnel that would be great!!

              Comment

              • That's what happens on a military aircraft......... in addition to other tasks.

I assume with a name like that you would have been familiar with this. Perhaps some parachuting off the ramp? or were you only allowed to go on maritime patrols?

                Comment

                • No I flew almost every mission that the aircraft is capable of, I just think in recent years the drift away from military tasks has been allowed to continue and in the future a cost benefit analysis may not be too kind to the AC.

                  Comment

                  • I'm sure when the cost benefit analysis is done by public servants in finance, money for air ambulance coming out of the military budget, and not the HSE or Transport or whatever is a win win

Irish Air Corps Complete Two Air Ambulance

The Irish Air Corps successfully completed two air ambulances overnight.

The first air ambulance involved the transfer of a patient and HSE team from Letterkenny General Hospital, Co. Donegal, to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital (OLCH), Crumlin.

The Agusta Westland 139 helicopter departed Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, with a HSE team at 6.00pm and routed to the Donegal Hospital where the patient was transferred into the care of the HSE team.

The helicopter then departed Letterkenny General Hospital at 9.10pm and, with the aid of night vision goggles, flew to the helicopter pad at OLCH Crumlin, landing at 10.30pm.

The patient was transferred into the care of the hospital staff and the helicopter departed for Baldonnel, arriving at 11.00pm.

The second air ambulance involved the transfer of a specialist HSE team from Baldonnel to Cork.

The Lear 45 fixed wing aircraft completed the mission at 6.10am when it landed safely back in Baldonnel.

This was 23nd Air Ambulance completed by the Air Corps this year.

                      END

                        • So as I previously said the ambulance still has to get to the scene first unless a major incident!
