            • I'd say the tunic of D/IRCG is like the NS seeing as the NS existed long before IRCG

Hmm technically no as we had a coastguard in the past, just wasn't named the IRCG,before independence made up of retired RN persons living along the coast.

They did indeed have their own uniform.

              • True, but the coast guard of then bears a closer bond to the Customs and Excise of today.

A pure gentleman, who has very large shoes to fill. Best of luck to him.

Best of luck to him and the service as a whole. It's good to see a Dub in charge down there.

                      • Well I don't know about the merits of being a Dub but Commodore Tully is a fine officer and gentleman and will be a fine FOC.
Best wishes to him. I am delighted he was promoted and appointed and he will fill any shoes with aplomb. Well done to him.

                        • I see from the 'New Commodore' thread the new FOCNS is credited with 36 years service in the DF. He has in fact 38 years service.

                          • 36 years commissioned perhaps? 2 years as a cadet? 15th Naval Cadet class, the class before Rear Admiral Mellett which would see him joining in 1975.

                            • Not sure how long his cadetship was but he certainly enlisted in 1975.
                              Thanks.

This is indeed correct from the published class lists.
