Any others of a similar calibre to Mellett and Early coming through?

Excellent news, hopefully he can progress the rest of the DF like he has done with the NS!

The Defence Acts (Second Schedule) allow for the rank of
    Seach-Aimiréal or (in English) Rear-Admiral
but to the best of my knowledge it has never been used (it is the naval equivalent of Major-General).

Earlier this year the MfD listed Major General and Lieutenant General as Naval Service ranks, no mention of a Rear Admiral rank.

The Air Corps ranks are listed by the MfD but its not in the Defence Act as the Air Corps was still an Army Corps in 1954.

I hear that RAdm Mellet had a new slider up yesterday with an extra gold ring on it...
What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem.

The Act has been amended once or twice since 1954

2 really great guys. MP was one of the best Officers I ever served under. MB still puts the heart cross ways in me, it's great to see that the Defence Forces has so many great Officers at Senior level.

the future is indeed bright. Hopefully the next generation of general will succeed in restricting further upward movement in the deadweight types that for too many years maintained the status quo of the old boy network.

I'm wondering about the above photo, is it photoshopped? It is identical In every way to a photo of the man as commodore, even down to the position of his gloves.

    Hi Goldie,

The sleeve with the star is alot more difficult to photoshop, considering the creases/fall of the material in the original.

Well one of them is definitely photoshopped, unless the Rear admiral has the unique skill of finding an identical background and holding the exact same pose for each photo
