I'm hoping to join the army reserves (I've sent my application in and I'm waiting for a date for the medical).
Just wondering is it possible to do a DF driving course (car) and get it transferred to civilian type.
I saw a similiar thread about a minibus license.
You'd want to double check with the S&T boys here but i think its possible if you join a transport coy... granted you wont do it straight away, you'd have to do a hell of a lot of soldierin and cold wet field days first!
Yes. If you do the full Nissan driving course from scratch, you get a Certificate Of Competency from D Tpt, with which you
apply for your civvy driving licence in the normal manner
Now, however, it is required to pass the driving test WITH trailer, whereas before, if you failed the trailer test, you got your
AF154 minus trailer
Now failure of the trailer test constitutes failure of the course, in the same way a fail on the road test would constitute a fail
In essence, you are doing a test for an EB, rather than a B licence

Do you wish to join the RDF to soldier or to get a driving licence without having to pay for lessons???
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

Its not a requirment to join a Tpt. Unit in order to get a driving course.
Driving courses are devolved to other units in the RDF.
The criteria required for an AF 154 course:-
Be of 3 star rank or equiv.
Must pocess for 2 years a clean full driving licence. (No penalty points or endorsements)
May be a course medical?
And attend training nights & field days lots of them.
If you for some strange reason are offered this course , you will be required to attend for one week , if lucky , you will get the trailer done as well. There are 3 modules 1, Nissan 2, Mini Bus & 3, Trucks.

These are the requirements for the Civilian Licence Holders course, not the "from scratch" course

Yes...
And attend training nights & field days lots of them
Yes, you must earn your corn, after all...

More than three... Nissan (with trailer), minibus, truck, truck + trailer, specialist vehicles
