Is there a ship naming dept in the NS,
Who comes up with and approves the namesThings fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Traditionally the Chief or Minister named them. check on the names of the previous Ministers daughters and hey presto bing bang boom. the only variation was Eithne who was named after the Chiefs favourite barmaid when he served with the 27th on the border....
tell me I'm wrong!

P32 was supposed to be named after "someone's" daughter. The name remained on the list until P52. His other daughters name has not yet been used.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Incorrect, it was Niamh.
Roisin was named by then Minister For Defence Michael Smith, after Roisin Dubh from Celtic Mythology.
The late Lt Cdr Sean O'Brien had an input into ship naming.

I know you would, like myself, prefer to be with our comrades who have already fallen in the fight - we, too, should rather die in this glorious struggle than submit to the enemy." Volunteer Captain Patrick Holahan to 58 of his men at North Brunswick Street, the last group of the Four Courts Garrison to surrender, Sunday 30 April 1916.

I heard a yarn that the name USS bill clinton has been reserved for a waste disposal ship, such is the love he inspired with the US navy, so maybe there is a use for adamns, mcGUNess, ect."We will hold out until our last bullet is spent. Could do with some whiskey"
