From Facebook:
Over the passed 12 months S/Lt Shane Mulcahy under went the Mine Clearance Diver Course with the Royal Canadian Navy at the Fleet Diving Unit Pacific, in Canada. This course was hugely demanding both physically and mentally on all students.
During this course S/Lt Mulcahy learned various methods for 'making safe' different types of mines, including deploying from a helicopter to approach a mine floating at the surface. He did Surface Supplied diving, which involved breathing mixed gas fed through a hose from the surface down to the diver at depths of up to 100 meters. This was a very technical phase on the course and required teamwork and trust amongst the students. During this training the students conducted underwater welding, cutting, use of hydraulic tools, and ended with a salvage project, recovering a sunken 40 foot fishing vessel.
S/Lt Mulcahy was presented with the top student award by the Deputy Commander Canadian Fleet Pacific, Captain Bradley Peats. The Naval Service congratulate S/Lt Mulcahy on his superb performance on this course and look forward to his return to the Naval Service Diving Section.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

What's a Navy Curl?
Great to see our Navy sharing their knowledge and experience with others, and great to see lads heading to foreign Navies to do courses-Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

It is a very Naval focused issue this month, covering the appointment of a new FOCNS, as well as a piece on the anniversary of the Tragic loss if LS Michael Quinn, the award of DSMs for the seizure of Dances with Waves.
The exchange with the USN is interesting. The cadets operate aboard the USNA YP boats. Each 30m vessel has a crew of 4 officers, 6 Rates and 30 trainees. They have a range of 6 days or 1680NM. The boats usually travel ant train in company with other vessels of type.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.
