      They recommend a hybrid model

      Also it seems we will be more directly trained by the PDF, we will be designated sub units of the PDF, and a PDF officer will be directly responsible for training within each unit.

              A few things jump off the pages

              €16 million to 305 cadre..in pay and allowances......

              None of the steering committee are reservists.

              58 locations outside of PDF manned posts.

              The difference in training as highlighted between PDF and RDF counterparts and an underlying trend which suggest it can't be realigned.

              Three of the four are instant warning lights for what a minister could do to save money and the fourth ably highlights how willing the PDF are to highlight how the sacrifices might be made without saying as much by highlight its vulnerabilities.

              Without further comment the Steering committee have done the RDF no favours...
              Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe

                  What are the good points as you see them Dev?
                  Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                  Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                  The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                  The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                  The best lack all conviction, while the worst

                    Closing units outside barracks (unfortunately not all)

                    Reduce the establishment in line to realistic affordable level (that they could use money saved to give 14 mandays (at least) to all)

                    Allow to do ATCA ops

                      Al Pachino's speech seems apt here. We can let this get us down, or we can fight our way back and prove our worth
                      What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem.

                          So after all the training, the fatigue, effort and commitment, I'm only qualified to wear a hi vis vest in bad weather, unpaid.

                          Sucks balls if you ask me.

                          May as well have been signed off as "Yours, RACO & PDFORRA".

                          So the conclusion of VFM states we can can train to be soldiers (second class soldiers), but aren't eligible to be deployed in the capacity as soldiers. But can pop in to marshal events and assist in bad weather, on your own time without pay. What weather proof kit are we wearing for the latter? It skirted neatly past equipment issues. It also outlines the 1954 Defence Act and the conditions as when we could be deployed as a contingency. It failed to recommend that without Employment Protection, it will be nigh on impossible to mobilise the RDF en masse. Nicely ducked that issue. And even if we were dragged away from our jobs to answer Shatter's call, we're not sufficiently trained to be capable of working with the PDF, apparently.

                          So in summary, its like this "Value For Money" steering group are effectively saying, we can pay to train people to become builders, but once qualified, their responsibilities will be to stay away from the building sites, and only called upon to construct sand castles on short notice. Without a bucket and spade. At high tide. Unpaid.

                          Serious amount of window licking going on there.

                          Good luck with that.
