It may involve crew giving evidence from time to time but the effect on compliance would be significant.Either way ,in the CASA, the AC have assets that make the inventory of peer leaders are as good as can be got the MP role entrusted to the AC.
Sounds like an argument for privatisation of Maritime

Same could be said of numerous DF duties unconnected to security/soveriegnty etc.

Very nice. I presume it was done after they had completed patrolling the Irish EEZ.

          It was.

A short clip of Neptune Section practicing some formation flying earlier this week.

'Charlie 252' and 'Charlie 253' joined up over Kildare after they returned from their Maritime patrols on Wednesday and this video shows them working on a loose formation in preparation for FlightFest next Sunday.

The formation is led by Sqn Comdr Comdt Conleth Walsh & Capt Fabio Scalici in Charlie 252 and have Capt Brendan O'Dowd & Lt Stephen Connolly in Charlie 253.

Looks like Sept 15th is a good day for illegal fishing and/or smuggling etc.

                Why?

They are likely to be involved for all of 30-45 mins and then if they climb to altitude they can start working or return to the don for a top up and start a mission.

The only thing that video would have benefited from more than new music was some missile launches.

AFAIK only one CASA will take part in FlightFest, unless things have changed.

why are they bothering with the formation flying so?

Not 100% sure but they might send both CASA's if they are available.
A CASA was formation flying with the PC-9's today.

I'd say that's what the plan is - provided one of them isn't tasked with another operation, they'll send both. In the meantime, they keep the would be smugglers guessing

Got a quick glimpse of the 4x PC-9's forming up with the CASA earlier - nice flying.

Pair of 172's were also busy doing circuits overhead too.

Hope they have a few more flights and get quite a bit closer if it's a two-ship, that's not impressive flying for pilots who've done formation flying in their training.

@tempest, given that practising formation flying in a Casa would be as rare as hen's teeth, they're allowed to be sloppy initially. That kind of flying gets very rusty very quickly unless you do it often.....
